Hello Friends!
It has been a wonderful five years of making organic donuts, drinks and unique desserts for
the greater Charlottesville community. We want to thank everyone who has spent their time
and dessert dollars with us at our little red cart, in the store at McIntyre Place, and at the many
wedding and corporate events in the area. It is truly humbling to realize that during a period of
economic downturn and recession, the support of our community had helped us grow a quirky
little food business into a sustainable business enterprise, with explosive growth and modest
profitability.
We now have a splendid opportunity to expand the reach of our business, building out a new
full size food truck and outfitting it for donut operations even further afield! We have recently
been contracted for significant work doing weddings, vending, and corporate events throughout
the Mid-Atlantic region, and the new truck will make this work sustainable. It is the necessary
precursor to the next step of our vision, which is to have Carpe Donut be an incubator for other
family owned businesses in communities across America, making locally sourced and organic
ingredient donuts and other treats, with an owner operated and worker owned model.
We are not looking to “franchise”, as we want each business to have its own identity and be truly
local, rather than litter the landscape with another chain store. There will only ever be one Carpe
Donut! That being said, we have learned a lot in bringing Carpe Donut to maturity, and would
like to offer our knowledge, recipes, and expertise to other nascent entrepreneurs. We also know
how difficult it is in the current economy to raise initial working capital, and want to opportunity
to offer the start-up resources to new businesses to try our model of business with minimal start-
up costs. All it takes is some specialty equipment, a bit of know-how, and a really good donut
recipe (and a lot of work!)
We would operate this rig ourselves for 2-3 months, working out all the kinks and getting
it ready to transfer to its new owners in a lease/own agreement which would give us a
great opportunity to test our model of collaborative entrepreneurship in other parts of the
country. What we can offer are some outstanding rewards to our friends in the community who
would like to help us finance this expansion. Read on for some fine ways to partake in the best
of what Carpe Donut has to offer, as well as some special incentives directly from our founder.
Thanks for all your continued support.
Cheers,
Matt Rohdie
